LOS ANGELES (July 20, 2023) — Brett Butler, senior vice president in Northmarq’s Newport Beach office, has been named to the Los Angeles Times’ 2023 Commercial Real Estate Visionaries list. This recognition highlights executives, lenders, builders and professional service providers whose savvy, adaptability, optimism and leadership have steered the industry toward post-pandemic growth.

Butler leads a highly accomplished team of professionals in the acquisition and disposition of retail, office, industrial, sale-leaseback and portfolio net lease properties. He has been involved in commercial real estate since high school, when he interned at Stan Johnson Company (SJC) — doing research on commercial property records. Northmarq acquired SJC in 2022.

After college, Butler moved from Tulsa, Okla., to Dallas to work at Marcus & Millichap as senior associate. Through networking and building relationships, he became the third hire of SJC’s Houston office, where he helped build the office out and increase the size of the team. In Houston, Butler closed 137 deals totaling $791 million in sales volume. In 2017, Butler moved from Houston to Newport Beach and opened SJC’s office there.

His care for and commitment to his clients have helped him cultivate and foster strong relationships with the top developers, real estate investment trusts (REIT) and private investors nationwide — such as Wood Investments Company and Creed Investments, LLC. Since establishing Northmarq’s Newport Beach office, the Commercial Investment Sales team there has secured more than $500 million in total transaction volume.

With over 18 years of commercial real estate experience, Butler is sought out for his advice and expertise on intricate transactions. He is client-focused, adaptive and communicates regularly with his clients. “Staying in regular communication with my clients allows me to best meet their goals and keep a pulse on the fluctuations in the market,” Butler said.
