Our survey respondents reported strong levels of investment sales activity, with a combined volume of over $951 billion in 2021― up from $484 billion in 2020 and $630 billion in 2019.  Even in the face of looming rate hikes, the outlook for commercial real estate investment activity remains positive for 2022, as investors will likely continue to be driven towards property asset types boasting strong underlying fundamentals.  While the industry remains optimistic for 2022, our 2022 Most Powerful Brokerage Firms ranking highlights the top firms to watch.  Methodology Commercial Property Executive‘s rankings of the Most Powerful Brokerage Firms are based on self-reported data from all firms. Amy Moyer, managing partner at Stan Johnson Co., is one such example. When she started at the company, she took a role that she assumed would be “an interesting job for a few years before I moved on to something else.” Now, 18 years and five positions later, Moyer realizes that she found her career at Stan Johnson Co. “Our company purpose is ‘Helping People Achieve Their Hopes and Dreams,’” Moyer says. “Of course we apply this as we work with our clients in the attainment of their goals, but it is definitely also applied to the development of our employees.” One company asset that has inspired her to remain at the firm is the collaboration among brokers as is evidenced by a centralized, shared database. Each year, Stan Johnson Company sets aside time to come together and serve our community. Through our annual SJCares Day of Service initiative, we take two of our core values, Service and Teamwork, to heart by partnering with local non-profit organizations for a day of volunteering. In years past, we have focused on in-person volunteer events at organizations such as Tulsa Habitat for Humanity, New Alternatives for Children in New York, Hands On Atlanta, local area food banks, as well as others. This year, however with COVID-19 preventing large in-person gatherings, we needed to find a solution to serve our communities remotely. We pooled our resources and found solutions for our sales and operations teams to get involved and help support the Hunger Action Month campaign benefiting Feeding America, a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks that feed more than 46 million people through food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other community-based agencies. Stan Johnson Company employees came together to promote Hunger Action Month on social media, donate food items to their local community food banks, and schedule individual volunteering sessions if they were comfortable doing so. We also launched a company-wide virtual fundraiser, benefiting Feeding America, and exceeded our fundraising goal!

This fall, Brett will put his professional career temporarily on hold to begin a six-month deployment. What about your pending deployment is most exciting? I enlisted in the active duty Air Force in 2001 and transferred to the Air National Guard in 2005. In 2010, I commissioned as an officer and was just promoted to Major this year. My entire military career has been spent in meteorology, and I’ll be focused on that discipline during my deployment. I’m very excited to have the chance to serve our great country, and even though that may sound cliché, that’s what is instilled in us and what we train for. I think of a minor league baseball player getting called to the big leagues and getting a chance to contribute to something bigger. In this case, I hope my big league stay is brief, but I will enjoy the impact I’ll have on the mission.   “I’m lucky.                                 Balancing my military career with my real estate career has not been a problem. I’ve had many years of experience balancing two careers, and I look at myself as “always on” with both. It’s common for me to take and make phone calls related to business while I’m wearing the uniform, and I’m blessed that the nature of my military career has allowed that. During my deployment though, I hope the impact to my professional career is minimal. There will definitely be the lost time of having conversations that build relationships that lead to winning business, but I’m confident that my team will carry the torch while I’m gone, and that I’ll       The short answer is yes, but it’s deeper than that. I ultimately joined the company because I witnessed all the wonderful characteristics that Ryan saw and connected with when he decided to join, and the firm’s culture is at the top of that list. After months of talking to so many people across the firm, I’ve noticed something unique about our brokers. It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what it is, but there seems to be a higher degree of professionalism and humility that I’ve seen with every internal interaction.                                     For someone just starting out, whether it’s a professional career or a military career, my advice to them is to be who you say you are. That doesn’t mean you can’t change or strive to be more, but you must first be who you say you are. You have to understand your weaknesses and be open to feedback from others to truly understand you are. Our new Partners were treated to an all-expense paid trip to The Rosewood Mayakoba in the Playa del Carmen region of Mexico during Stan Johnson Company’s annual Leadership Summit that recognizes our top producers and Partners. This trip creates the opportunity for our leadership team and top producers to network with their peers, build relationships, and have fun in a beautiful setting. Each Partner was invited to bring a guest, allowing their spouse or significant other to also participate in the celebration. The Operations Leadership team of Stan Johnson Company, which includes 15 Senior VPs, Directors, and Managers representing the firm’s corporate departments, gathered at the Post Oak Lodge and Retreat Center outside Tulsa, Oklahoma for a day of professional development and collaboration. Amidst a packed day filled with topics including managing organizational change and teaming to achieve SJC’s key company growth goals, the Operations Leadership team put our heads and hearts together! Leaders also had the opportunity to take a break from the heavy-mindshare discussions to enjoy a beautiful spring day with a little competitive “Human Foosball” and the ever-popular Corn Hole. SJC’s leaders successfully competed on both fronts and then were back digging in on strategy together before the afternoon was finished.
